About

Members call us DPC for short. We started at a small paper in Cape May, NJ, with an audacious dream; to provide key technologies that help unify the newspaper industry.

We believe the industry’s greatest hope for the future is found in collaboration with others. None of our individual organizations is big enough to realize the larger promise that our networked world has to offer, and we suffer in silos.

We share common challenges, threats and opportunities that require a scope and rate of technology development that none of us alone can achieve. Our common fate calls for a common solution. To use the metaphor of Tom Mohr, former head of Knight Ridder Digital, we need a Switzerland that everyone can trust to set standards and provide technology for audience aggregation and ad delivery. The DPC aims to be that common solution.

About Stan Gauss

Stanley Gauss has been working with small market businesses in community newspaper markets since 1993. He began his career in New Egypt, NJ, with the New Egypt Press. As an advertising manager in New Egypt, he learned firsthand the difficulties newspapers had when trying to sell to non-traditional advertisers. After New Egypt, he joined Newhouse Newspapers in Trenton, NJ, as a Territory Sales Manager, where he was able to take what he learned in New Egypt and develop inner-city Trenton into one of The Times of Trenton’s largest and most profitable territories. He left Trenton to take on new challenges at The Des Moines Register in Des Moines, Iowa, where he focused on developing Automotive Dealers into multimedia advertisers, securing their first multimedia contracts, and helped the Register successfully launch Cars.com on its website.

Since 2001, Stan has helped launch and monetize websites in the suburbs of Philadelphia and Atlantic City, NJ. He has used change management to develop sales teams that were able to take the web products to market. In 2006, he joined Planet Discover, where he created the Market Development Group that helps newspapers develop strategies to successfully sell the SMB.

His current role with the Digital Press Consortium is dedicated to expanding a group of newspaper partners to work collaboratively in developing sound strategies to implement in their market. He provides consulting on product development, rate planning, sales channel development, marketing and training techniques.
