I’ve gotten to know a few pure-players since I left Planet Discover over a month ago but none have impressed me more than CityVoter.com and their CEO Josh Walker.
CityVoter.com is a social networking site that provides their audience information about ‘What’s Hot’ as it relates to local business. All of their content is created by their audience. The communication begins when a member asks “What is the best Philly cheesesteak in Philadelphia?” or “Who is the best trainer in Phoenix?”. After that, the rest of their users take over from there. This is a fresh approach to gathering user reviews and when combined with their personas will provide a very targeted advertising network.
As I stated in an earlier post, User Reviews will help increase search ranking on GYM (Google, Yahoo, and Microsoft) but that only works if your content is fully optimized and either being crawled or sent to them. CityVoter.com’s reviews rank high in search results and are regulars in the Google ‘Ten Pack’.
On top of the reviews and the targeted advertising network, CityVoter.com could also become a market extension product for your local listings. CityVoter.com will reach deeper into the local market than most local newspapers so pushing business profiles to them will increase the visibility of your Marketplace and your advertisers information.
They have also mastered the local contest. Newspapers publish the ‘Best Of’ sections annually and CityVoter.com’s contest platform will enhance the print and web product while at the same time bringing new businesses and users into the mix.
They also have created National Guides that can bring some really unique content sharing and revenue generation opportunities.
Being the geek and wannabe analyst that I am, the thing that excites me the most is the rich data that they will be able to share. They will have deep insight into the intentions of your users and will be able to help you gain a better understanding of how to monetize it.
I’m sure I’ve left out many opportunities so I will be following up with them in the weeks to come and will post my findings.
CityVoter.com will be in your neighborhood soon!
